FireWall Requirements

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The server and client communicate with each other over the TCP/IP protocol.

In order for the NexusDB Server engine to be accessible across a network, there are some ports that must not be blocked by any firewall (Client or Server end).

If you change any of the default port numbers in the server configuration, then the port numbers below change accordingly.

- To use the TCP Transport, port 16000 must be open in TCP mode

- To automatically find the server with the TCP Transport using broadcasts, ports 16000 and 16001 must be open in UDP mode
(The server listens for broadcasts on port 16000 and replies on port 16001)

- To use the Blowfish Secured TCP Transport, port 17000 must be open in TCP mode

- To automatically find the server with the Blowfish Secured TCP Transport using broadcasts, ports 17000 and 17001 must be open in UDP mode
(The server listens for broadcasts on port 17000 and replies on port 17001)

- To be able to connect to the Server Administration web interface, port 10088 must be open in TCP mode

Failure to open the required ports will result in problems when connecting to the server.

It is essential that the autoupdate features within the NXServer are configured correctly. These facilities control updates to the Hiretrack NX client, the NXSever and hotfixes to the database.

To use the auto update feature, the server needs to be able to ping (and receive a reply) from navigator-support.com and ftp.navigator.co.uk and access http://www.navigator-support.com on port 80 and ftp://ftp.navigator.co.uk via the normal ftp protocols. Additionally  the client workstations needs to be able to connect (by default) to the NXServer using port 21. To send alert emails to the administrator, the NX server requires access to your email server on (by default) port 25 and the SMTP server info configured correctly.

The licensing feature of the NXServer requires periodic access to one of the following web sites www.copyminder.com, primary.copyminder.com, secondary.copyminder.com, www.microcosm.co.uk
